About Pastor Rick

Pastor Rick came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ in 1976 while on his way to Hawaii to become a professional surfer. He had fled his home state of Florida to get away from the influence of drugs and partying that had been his lifestyle for most of his teenage years. Rick came from a broken home and had grown up around less than ideal conditions.

He set off in hopes of a new life! Thank God that is exactly what he found when he stopped off in California, and three young men witnessed to him and a friend at a southern California beach. Rick comments, "When I found Jesus I had such a radical transformation that I knew that God had truly saved me. I hadn't found him, He found me." Rick began to attend Calvary Chapel of Dana Point and quickly grew in his faith and his love for God's Word. "I knew almost immediately that God was calling me into ministry, because I just had to tell others about all that God had done for me and even more, what He could do for them.

God soon answered one of Rick's prayers when He led a beautiful, "on fire," Christian girl into his life. Susan would become his wife a year and a half later. Rick and Sue took over a small youth group at her father's church and the rest is history. They shepherded that youth group for 12 years as Rick attended college, first at Saddleback Community College, then at Vanguard University, and then on to Trinity Biblical University where he earned his Bachelors Degree. Since that time, Rick and Sue have pastored at Ocean Hills Community Church, planted San Clemente Christian Center (which is now Cornerstone Community Church), and then in 2001 planted Church on the Rock, in San Juan Capistrano. He currently has his Master's degree in Ministry through Trinity Biblical University.

Rick has also served as a police chaplain for 13 years, first with the San Clemente Police Department, then with Orange County Sheriff's Department where he continues to serve as a Senior Chaplain. Rick also has served with the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, as Vice President a missionary with Peace Officers for Christ, Vice President of Peace Officers and Firefighters Fellowship, and on the Red Cross Critical Response Team-SRT. He also serves on Safe Harbor International Relief's Action Crisis Team. Pastor Rick is Director of Training for Action Crisis Team ("T.I.M.").

Rick and Sue have two children, Nathan, age 25 and Autumn, age 22 and a beautiful little grandchild,Jerica Lynn, who is 2 1/2 yrs old. Family is a major priority in our life. Rick continues to surf with his son, Nate, who is a professional surfer for Billabong. Autumn is an accomplished artist who still draws with her dad. Rick and Sue love the outdoor lifestyle. They are avid cyclists and enjoy traveling, cooking, and working on their home. Rick and Sue also sing together and are a part of the worship team at Church on the Rock. The last member of the family is their black Lab, Sarg who aspires to be a search and rescue dog.

Most of all, Jesus deserves all the credit for blessing us with such a rich and meaningful life. Without Him, none of this would have been possible!
